Quite a few people have asked about feedback on their RP's.
I am having the judges give a brief sentence or two of feedback when they give their winners which I will PM out to each of you after the card.
In general the judges are all looking for the same thing which is posted in the rules:
Sell your match: It is wrestling after all so its important to include your opponent and GCW.
- Using GCW staff instead of generic ones
- Properly referencing things about your opponents showing you read their RP's/know about them
- This is your typical "promo" shoot part of the RP where you talk about your opponent
Character Development: It's not all about wrestling, you have a character to make people care about, just like in WWE.
- Why is your character here in GCW? Why do they wrestle? What's their backstory?
- Why are they happy/sad/angry?
- What do they do when they're not wrestling?
- Connecting GCW story lines/rivalries
- Creativity, is your wrestler just walking out to the ring and talking? Because that isn't creative
- This is where the entertainment and creativity aspect comes in at.
Quality: ARE WE ENTERTAINED!?
- Did the judge enjoy the RP?
- Are they interested to see what's next?
- Did it make them laugh/cry/angry/care about the character and the match?
- Did it make sense based on past RP's?
Length: It matters, its just not everything.
- Is it 100 words vs. 1,000 words?
- Don't write a long rambling RP or repeat words for filler, etc. But a longer RP with good quality will beat a short one with good quality
- It is not JUST about length though, as the above says if your length is just filler you wont win
- Many efeds I've been in give the win to who does more RPs or who's is longer automatically. This is why we put limits on it (1 RP a week, 2K words). We don't want to read long rambling things that don't make sense
Technical Aspect: Spelling/grammar/formatting
- Do you have lots of errors?
- Is your RP layout hard to read? Laying it out "pretty" won't help you win, but laying out poorly can hurt
- How's your vocabulary? Are you saying things like "really good" or are you saying "excellent"?
- How's the grammar and first/third person view? Are you saying "is" then "was"? Are you speaking from first person then third?
Close Calls: Always a winner
- It sucks but sometimes you will lose despite being good. We have to make a decision. There isn't always "something you can do better" its just the one the judges enjoyed more.
- Ties suck and we don't want to do that, even if we are torn sometimes.
MOST IMPORTANT
In the end this is about fun and enjoyment, we all choose to do this in our free time. If you think you are struggling and want help let us know as if we had enough people we wanted to do an "enhancement" division to help people learn and grow before going after things like title shots. I'm not sure if we are there yet but if people are interested we can do it.
