*Mason is making his way along a busy street on his way to meet up with Ian and plot new plans for the upcoming tournament. Suddenly, behind him, an unfamiliar face is sprinting through the crowd, dodging and weaving through the landmine of pedestrians*
Unknown man: Mason, wait! I need to talk to you.
*The man grabs Mason’s shoulder before directing him into a nearby alleyway which was as empty as an alleyway can be*
Unknown Man: Mason, do you remember me? Come on man. It’s me, your old buddy Chris. Chris Davidson?
*Mason stares directly into Chris’ eyes but shows no sign of recognition.
Chris: How have you forgotten me? We were best pals man! I looked after you, you looked after me, we were inseparable. Anyway, I came to try and talk some sense into you. I’ve been watching your matches and interviews on the GCW network and I have come to realise that you have changed for the worse. So, I decided to try my luck and make you remember the person you used to be and maybe that will change you for the better.
*Mason doesn’t break his gaze on Chris, who sits Mason and himself down on a couple of boxes lying around on the alleyway floor*
Chris: Do you remember DAW? Derbyshire Area wrestling? That was your first ever promotion. That was the place that gave you your first opportunity. I remember like it was only yesterday the first time you waltzed into training. The smile on your face was so warm you could have melted Popsicles! You were happy to be there and we were happy to have you.
*Chris attempts to imitate the smile from Mason’s first appearance which is met by the usual emotionless stare*
Chris: You know what made you so great? It was your heart. You were always on hand to give someone help when they needed it. From basic to complex manoeuvres, you were willing to spend time helping those who needed it most. I also don’t know anyone so full of spirit and passion for wrestling. There wasn’t a day where you weren’t in the gym doing some form of exercise to improve yourself. How you found time for anything else is beyond me. Speaking of which…
*Chris pulls out his phone to show Mason a picture of 12 teenagers in a wrestling ring posing with someone*
Chris: Do you remember these guys? That’s the DAW training school students. And you see the giant behind them? That’s you Mason. You were the school’s head coach. You spent hours training everything to these kids from wrist locks to powerbombs. But you never saw the final result, did you? You have no idea what happened to these guys. See her, *Chris points to the only girl in the group* She went on to pioneer the DAW women’s division as champion. This guy is currently the number one contender for the main title. But best of all is him. *Chris points out the kid directly in front of Mason in the photo* Surely you remember him? He was your prized student. He…is on the verge of signing a deal with Ring Of Honour! Do you see the impact you made on these kid’s lives? All of them are doing well for themselves because of one man…One giant…You.
*Mason’s gaze breaks from Chris as he looks slowly down to the ground. Chris’ eyes widen, thinking he has changed Mason’s attitude. However, Mason stands up, ready to leave the conversation. Chris stands too, blocking Mason’s exit*
Chris: Are you fucking kidding me right now? How do you still not recall your past? Ian must have brainwashed you more than I initially thought. I wish we never let him into the company. He was so trustworthy, so honest. We couldn’t have turned his offer down to let him be a manager for someone. I could tell instantly that you wanted to get well acquainted with Ian, as you always did with everyone. But Ian was different. He saw potential in you and you alone and decided to focus on you more than anyone else. I saw less and less of you as the weeks went on. Every time your excuse was “Ian wants me to train some more” or “I need to talk to Ian.” I could see small changes in you straight away: you showed up to less talent meetings, you seemed more stressed, more agitated by something. We all wondered what was going on between you and Ian, and it wasn’t long before we got our answer.
*Mason attempts to leave only to be blocked by Chris, furious at Mason’s lack of interest*
Chris: I remember it like it was yesterday. The day that will haunt me forever, the first DAW Super Event. We decided before Ian arrived that at the Super Event we would give one member of the DAW training school the chance to debut in the company. All they had to do, was go through you. You were set to build this kids future up. You were the one chosen to elevate him to greatness. But of course, Ian got involved. The first clothesline was enough to silence the whole arena. The damage you inflicted on that young lad was criminal. You had no remorse for the pain you put him through. And all that time, Ian was ringside, smirking at the chaos before him. Do you know what happened to That Student? HE ENDED UP IN A FUCKING WHEELCHAIR FOR THE REST OF HIS LIFE!
*Both men stare at each other for an awkward amount of time, the tension between them thickening with every passing second*
Chris: If it wasn’t for Ian, you would still be in DAW helping everyone in need, teaching the new generation of stars, elevating them to the Main Event. But what are you doing now? You’re letting Ian treat you like his bitch.
*With that, Mason grips onto Chris’ neck and throws him into the wall, holding him up and staring a hole straight through him. Chris struggles but fails to free himself, looking directly into the fiery eyes of Mason*
Chris: You…You can’t be saved…
*With one big swing, Mason clobbers Chris with a right hand, sending him crashing into the boxes on the floor, unconscious. Mason stands tall above Chris’ motionless body. However, his mouth stutters a bit as if he wanted to say something. In the end, Mason decides against it and leaves the alleyway back into the busy crowd…
...just as an onlooker finishes recording what he just witnessed*
The beautiful Lola sparkle is seated in a local cafe in Portland, Oregon. Despite being slightly irritated that her guest had yet to arrive, the curvy GCW interviewer continued to smile at the camera.
Lola: Most people don’t know it, but there are actually five, not four, time zones in the United States: Eastern, Central, Mountain, Pacific, and Jensen time — as in popular GCW wrestler Jensen. The Jensen time zone is usually situated within the city limits of Portland, Oregon, where he resides, but point of fact it’s located wherever he’s standing at the moment. Jensen time is kind of like bullet time in The Matrix, only slower. Or better yet, it’s like that scene in Interstellar where they explore that water planet orbiting a black hole for 20 minutes, and by the time they get back to the ship, 20 years have passed on Earth.
Lola Sparkle continues to sit. Although the show is live, they have continued to roll the camera. As the camera continued to roll they took in the environment. During this time they even interviewed some of the local fans.
Seated in the back was a young brunette named Alison. Alison has served as Jensen's personal assistant for several months now and knows him better than most people. According to her, he pulls this all the time. He had once missed a flight because he fell asleep putting on socks, which she promised had nothing to do with brain damage, but more do do with the strong herbal tea Jensen purchases from the far east. Today Alison says that Jensen is running a bit late due to some business with a locksmith, a locksmith for what exactly she does not say
After a few minutes, Alison steps into the scene and whispers in Lola's ear.
Lola: Folks we are now a few minutes away from a word from the local boy,Jensen! Twenty minutes later the GCW superstar can be seeing through the glass of the cafe. The Portland boy is smiling as he parks his bicycle. He steps through the door and rushes over and sits down. The GCW camera crew hands him a microphone. His smile is instantly fades and a drop of sweat begins to roll down his check.
Lola: Jensen, we are glad you made it here today. Now, lets get right into it: How does it feel to be wrestling in our home town.
Jensen: It is great. This is where I was born and bred. This is where I became me.
Lola: Growing up, did you always see yourself as a wrestler?
Jensen: When I used to picture what I'd be like as an adult, I was pretty spot on by predicting I'd mix up scallions and scallops so frequently, but I also imagined myself as a wrestler. I had an interesting childhood, which I am not prepared to talk about today, but I can tell you that wrestling always got me through the hard times. Lola: What was it like for you when you answered the phone and Nigel was on the other line?
Jensen is still noticeably nervous. His leg moves up and down as his foot taps away.
Jensen: It was uhm.. good. Every week I go out and give it my all, despite who they put in front of me. Like this week I drew Mason, the silent Monster. Despite how intimidating he can be, it is not going to stop me from pinning him in the center of the ring. Lola: Before we go any further, I would like to thank you for taking time out of your training schedule to join us today.
Jensen: Well despite me hating the camera, i feel it important to get your story out. If you aren't one to speak up for yourself, somebody else will. That can never be a good thing.
Lola: Well thank you for your time. Before we let you go, can you tell us your plans for the rest of the day in your hometown.
Jensen: I sure can. I am filming an advertisement today which is aimed to help children succeed in life. I am really excited about it because I wrote most of it myself. Now if you will excuse me, I am a bit late to that.
Jensen walks out the door towards his bike. He hopes off and rides off as the rain begins to trickle toward the earth.
The video commercial opens with Jensen seated in a chair with a book in his hands. Several children are sitting in front of him while he reads from the book.
Jensen: And little Ollie North looked up at his friend and said, "But Clifford we can't give all our guns to our friends. We are going to have to put some of those back!"..
Jensen then looks at the camera as if he was startled.
Jensen: Oh hi! It is me, GCW superstar Jensen here. It looks like you caught me spending time with my friends and a one of my favourite books, Clifford the Big Red Dog and the Iran Contra Adventure.
Jensen closes the book and continues to speak toward the camera.
Jensen: I usually spend most of my time with a good book in hand. They are filled with wonderful stories of whales, princes and Fairy Godmothers. Some of my favorite stories even have pirates. Say do you know what a Pirates favourite letter of the alphabet is?
The children in the commercial all yell "ARRRRRR!"
Jensen nods no.
It is a trick question because they are illiterate savages who do not comprehend the magic of the written word. So kids do yourself a favor and pick up a book. It is time to put illiteracy back into the friend zone.
Andrew Jordan: Anyone checked my app for approval yet?
