The audience in the Staples Center is in an unbelievable state of excitement. GCW’s first ever Pay-Per-View: One. To many, a day like today would have been impossible. Yet here they are, on their feet in anticipation for the next part of the show.
The Titantron blacks out, and then switches to show clips of the Nightmare Owen Hawes, highlighting his recent victories. The clips are accompanied by a voiceover by GCW play-by-play commentator Terry Kohl.
“Since Global Championship Wrestling’s conception, there was always an enigma. Owen Hawes talks hard, and hits harder. Going by the moniker of the Nightmare, Owen Hawes has been a mystery to many of us here in Global Championship Wrestling. In this exclusive one-on-one sit-down interview, I aim to help us all understand the man behind the mystery…”
The montage of clips fades out, and in its place are two plush chairs. Each chair has a small table beside it with a glass of water on it. On the left chair sits Terry Kohl, he is wearing a black suit, with a yellow tie with black stripes. On the right chair sits The Nightmare, cross-legged on the chair. He is wearing a black trench coat that goes over a grey t-shirt and a pair of jeans.
“Mr. Hawes the wor-“
Terry Kohl is quickly interrupted by Owen Hawes
“There is no need for formalities. We sit here as equals. Owen is sufficient.”
Terry Kohl clears his throat
“Owen, the world is dying to know: Who is the Nightmare?”
Owen Hawes corrects his posture, yet still cross-legged on the chair
“Is the world dying to know? Is it? Or is it merely hyperbole made by another lowly child, bastardizing a language so much that they must speak in lies? Ah, but I’m not a rude man, Terrence. I am an invited guest, and if you ask a question, I am happy to give you an answer. The Nightmare is a man who sees the world for what it truly is. When you sleep, you escape into this world of your own imagination, yes?”
Terry Kohl nods in agreement
“To escape means to hide. You hide in plain sight. Everywhere I look, I see people escaping in other people’s art. They look at screens and admire the accomplishments of others. They put on their headphones and hide in other people’s music. I understand. I have been hurt by this world. It has harmed me enough for me to take shelter and hide, but I have seen the truth. Have you ever read Plato, Terrence?”
Terry Kohl seemed to be surprised by the question, but once comprehending it, quickly stammers his way to an answer.
“In college, but I barely remember it.”
“Plato writes about a Cave. A cave where people have been trapped their entire lives. Since they were born, they have never seen anything except for false images shown through shadows on the cave walls. Until one day, someone is let free from the cave. He walks out to the real world. There, he is initially uncomfortable, and in fear. This new world is unfamiliar; the sun burns his eyes. The ground is uncomfortable for his feet. The air feels free and cold. He is afraid. But once he learns that this new world means freedom, he aims to set free everyone in the cave. But those in the cave rejected him. They called him mad. The world is the cave, Terrence. All I want to do is set people free. Break their chains. Let them walk into the real world and show them that the false images they have been escaping to cannot save them.”
Terry Kohl follows up by asking,
“And is that what brought you here? To Global Championship Wrestling?”
Owen Hawes smiles, seemingly impressed by the question
“Indeed it is. You see, the world has been escaping in their screens to watch the Gods of the arena battle in hand in hand combat. That’s what feeds their desires. They build an emotional connection with one of these Gods and watch them climb to the top of Mount Olympus. Me, I come for a different reason. See, I am but a man, a man amongst the Gods. And as such, I must show the world that a man can conquer the Gods, but he can only do so with cunning. One can never be stronger than a God. But a man can be smarter. A man can do what a God can’t. A man can outthink the Gods. A man can break the Gods from within.”
Owen Hawes now moves his legs down from its cross-legged position, and is now sitting normally, except for the fact that he is resting his arms on his thighs, looking directly into Terry Kohl’s eyes.
“Once you give them doubt, you already won. How do you give the Gods doubt? Through fear! Fear of the unknown. Fear of the unpredictable nature of man. A man can conquer the Gods by exposing their flaws to the world. Then they will see that the false images they escape to and worship are broken.”
Terry Kohl breaks the eye contact he has with Owen Hawes and looks at his notes. It is impossible for him to look into those dark eyes for long.
“This leads me to my next and final question. Tonight, you go up against Jensen and Titanic in a match that determines the number one contender for the Global Championship Wrestling Intercontinental Championship in the company’s inaugural Pay-Per-View, One. Are there any thoughts going into that match?”
“The Titan has proved treacherous. He is the prime example. The world sees only the surface. They see the destruction. But in that river of destruction lies an undercurrent of fear. The Titan is afraid of being exposed, and I will do exactly that. But Mr. Schaefer, he has the look of a broken man. He isn’t a God. He is a boy, a boy with a broken past. His past haunts him, I can see that. He escaped his cave and is trying to fit in with the Gods. But I know you, Peter. I know exactly who you are.”
Terry Kohl, relieved that the interview is over, signs off to the audience
“Well, Owen. This interview has been illuminating. Best of luck to you and to your opponents tonight. From Global Championship Wrestling, I have been Terry Kohl.”

**The Staples Center is packed with thousands of fans who all came out to witness the first ever PPV for the GCW.** **Jackson Marr is walking beside Titanic as they head towards the center of the ring to address the crowd about the upcoming match that will decide who the #1 contender is for the GCW International Championship** **As the boos rain down on the two, Titanic smiles as if he enjoys it**
Jackon Marr: "LOS ANGELES!!! Are you prepared to witness THIS MAN... tear two people limb from limb? Are you prepared to watch him man handle man handle them as if they are dolls!?!? Are you prepared to see Titanic leave this triple threat match as the number 1 contender for the GCW International Championship!?"
**The crowd continues to shower Marr and Titanic with boos**
Jackson Marr: "SHOW SOME RESPECT! Whether you want it or not... Titanic will be one step closer to being YOUR GCW International Champion."
**Titanic steps in**
Titanic: "Jackson.... I don't care if I have their respect... The only thing I care about is crushing the skull of Jensen and showing this Owen Hawes what a true nightmare is." You see, here's the thing... a nightmare is all in your head but it can't actually do any true damage to anyone. Hawes thinks that he can beat me because he thinks that he'll inflict fear on me... He thinks that he'll give me a nightmare!?!? I hate to break it to you Hawes but a nightmare won't win you this match. A nightmare is NOTHING! compared to physical pain being inflicted by someone like me. Someone who doesn't let a nightmare get in the way of achieving my goals. You see... a nightmare does in fact expose one's fears but believe me when I say Owen Hawes knows NOTHING about fear. There is only one way to truley expose the fear that is buried deep within and that is an intense physical pain... An intense physical pain that only I am capable of inflicting. Simply put, I don't fear Owen Hawes. He's a joke and if he thinks that I will be stopped for any reason... he is sadly mistaken. Last week I saw fear in Owen Hawes eyes when I was throwing him around the ring like a rag doll. My one mistake was showing him mercy and leaving the match. I give you my word... That will not be the case tonight. Owen Hawes will be in a living nightmare after I am done with him."
Jackson Marr: "DO YOU HEAR THIS LOS ANGELES!?!? Titanic is leaving here as the number 1 contender. He's not scared of Owen Hawes and he certainly isn't afraid of Jensen."
**Jackson Marr laughs hysterically**
Titanic: "Oh yeah, and Jensen... The man who won in 5 seconds last week. Congratulations on that I guess... but there will be a huge difference in this match. Jensen... I guarantee you don't last 10 seconds in the ring with me. Both you and Owen Hawes will be begging for mercy while I twist and turn both of your bodies and WHEN I walk out this ring as the number 1 contender... I'll make sure you both don't suffer for very long."
**Titanic throws the mic on the ground and gets ready to throw down**
For the past week or so, sleep eluded me. Each night I lay in bed, eyes focused on the ceiling, running through my thoughts while trying to keep the words of THE BOOK away. I finally gave up on trying to get some sleep. Instead, I sat up, and began thinking about my future. Why should I dwell on the past when I have so much to look forward to.
The room was in complete darkness until I pulled open the curtains. The moonlight shone through, illuminating a corner of my hotel room. Soon, I found my way into the kitchen and poured himself a cup of water, before returning to the living room and taking a seat at the edge of the bed. I took a sip, and wondered why the words have returned.
Despite how I felt about The Book growing up, one particular line resonated with me. As I closed my eyes, the words were seemingly sewn into my eyelids.
"Live your own Gospel, and write your own myth."
In the GCW, that is what I intended to do. If I didn't put my future into my own hands, someone else will do it for me. I can'te that happen. I made a promise to Dani....
THE DAY BEFORE "ONE"
Los Angeles, California
We all have our nervous ticks. Some people bite their nails, others tap their foot. I on the other hand play with ties. I can't explain it really. As far back as I can remember uncomfortable situations make me latch onto a tie and start twirling it around. This very instant was no different.
This was my first official GCW interview and I wanted it to go well. It doesn't help that when I am forced to speak in front of a camera I come out looking like a complete fool. Terry Kohl was the man conducting the interview. On the plus side Lola Sparkles was nowhere to be seen. Had she been in the room wearing her trademark "outfits", I doubt a coheren sentence would come out from my mouth.
Terry Kohl: You look very uncomfortable, you sure you want to do this?
Jensen: I think so, the GCW Universe needs to see me. I am the Superstar they deserve.
Terry Kohl: Ok then. You can let go of my tie and sit across from me now.
I took a deep breath and went toward my designated seat. Over the years I have developed techniques to calm my nerves before an interview. One such technique is to picture yourself naked, but with a butcher knife instead of genitals. Everybody should listen to that guy.
Terry Kohl: Good evening PWC Universe. I am sitting here with our new superstar, Jensen. Jensen, how does it feel to be a part of Global Championship Wrestling?
Jensen: It is great. Uhm, at first I was a bit disappointed that I didn't sign a contract sooner, which kept me out of the Championship tournament. But now I have a chance to be the number one contender to the International title. I couldn't be more thrilled. It is kind of like how Gary Busey did movies called Point Break and Breaking Point within two years of each other. So see, sometimes life just works out.
He then looked at me with a somewhat confused look. But then carried on with the interview.
Terry Kohl: You will be competing at ONE against Titanic and Owen Hawes? How do you like your chances?
Jensen: Well, a triple threat match isn't exactly an ideal situation, but I am ready to go. It doesn't matter who my opponents are because the confidence I have in myself. Titanic and Owen Hawes are both talented individuals, but I am not about to lose this match. Titanic may be a monster of a man, but there is no doubt I can cut him down to size. One swift kick from me is all it could take to send him sinking to the bottom. As far as the Nightmare goes, well lets just say he is in for a rude awakening if he thinks I am going to lie down for him. If you think the world is a bad place, what until you step into the ring with me.
Terry Kohl: You sound confident.
Jensen: I absolutely am confident. I work hard to be the best shape posssible. "Jensen, terrorists hijacked a train and they’ll only surrender for $1B or unless someone can do 300 crunches in a row" That’s what I think about every time I workout. I won’t lie, some days, a lot of pretend people explode. But I am still prepared to go out and give it my all. That's just who I am.
Terry Kohl: Do you feel your opponents should be worried about you?
Jensen: I made a promise, a very special promise to someone and if anybody steps in my way to try and stop me fulfilling that promise ... then it will be the last thing they do.
I was starting to feel like I was finally understanding what it takes to give a great interview. We continued for a few more minutes. He asked me the standard questions you normally would hear in an interview such as this, such as what are my goals in the PWC and who I look forward to get into the ring with. My confidence was at an all time high, well as high as they possibly could be in this situation.
Terry Kohl: One last question, do you have any messages you would like to give the PWC universe?
Just as he finished his sentence Lola sparkle entered the room. She then proceeded to make eye contact with me, and in doing so it ruined any chance of finishing the interview on a high note.
I then turned grabbed a camera and looked directly at it.
Every year, billions of spiders die when people sleep-eat them.
